Former Georgian Defense Minister David Kezerashvili was denied an American visa. This was reported by the Georgian service of Radio Liberty.
A businessman, the founder of the opposition television company Formula, wanted by Georgian authorities, filed a complaint in the District Court of the District of Columbia for refusing to grant him a US visa. The article on the basis of which Kezerashvili was refused suggests suspicion of money laundering.
From the lawsuit published on the portal Courtlistener.com, it follows that David Kezerashvili submitted an application for a visa to the US Embassy in Cyprus on April 4, 2023. He received the refusal on July 18, 2023.
He then asked the US State Department to release the information that served as the basis for denying the visa. Having received no response, he filed a lawsuit on February 20, 2024.
The article on the basis of which Kezerashvili was denied a visa states that if a consular officer and the prosecutor general know or have information that a person is involved in a specific crime or is an accomplice to such a crime, he may be denied a visa.
The media indicate that a few months before Kezerashvili’s visa refusal, the British television company BBC aired a documentary investigation about the former politician’s possible connection to an international fraudulent money laundering group.
