At the Winter Olympic Games being held in Milan and Cortina d’Ampezzo, the Georgian national team finished fourth in the figure skating team event.
In the men’s singles free skate, Nika Egadze performed his program and received 154.79 points from the judges.
Before Egadze took to the ice, Georgia had 50 points and was in fourth place in the team standings. To win a medal, the team needed to make up a two-point deficit behind Italy, which was in third place. However, a number of mistakes by Egadze, along with a strong performance by Italy’s Matteo Rizzo, prevented the Georgian skater from overtaking his rival. As a result, the Georgian team finished fourth, just one step away from the bronze medal.
In two disciplines — pairs skating (Anastasia Metelkina / Luka Berulava) and women’s singles (Anastasia Gubanova) — Georgian skaters achieved the second-best result among their competitors, earning 9 points each for the team. The ice dance pair Diana Davis / Gleb Smolkin scored 7 points, while Nika Egadze earned 6 points.
Final standings in the figure skating team event:
United States — 69 points
Japan — 68 points
Italy — 60 points
Georgia — 56 points
Canada — 54 points
