On the occasion of the 85th anniversary of the founding of the National Academy of Sciences of Georgia, President Mikheil Kavelashvili congratulated the Academy and Georgian scientists on this significant milestone.
According to the president, science offers a genuine opportunity to understand the world and transform reality for the better, directly shaping our everyday lives through technological progress and the expansion of knowledge.
“Dear scientists, I congratulate you on this most important occasion — the 85th anniversary of the founding of the National Academy of Sciences of Georgia. This anniversary is a symbol of our country’s intellectual heritage, its intellectual potential, and its aspiration for progress.
In essence, science is humanity’s attempt to discern and comprehend the divine laws that underpin the universe. Accordingly, every new scientific discovery brings humanity closer to the Creator.
The development of science has played a fundamental role in the evolution of humankind, clearly demonstrating that understanding the world and transforming our lives for the better are real possibilities within human reach.
Science is not merely a closed process taking place in academic circles or laboratories. It directly shapes the reality in which we live every day. Science transforms our world along two fundamental dimensions simultaneously: on the one hand, through technological progress, it continuously reshapes and improves our everyday environment; on the other, it constantly enriches and expands people’s understanding of the world.
In small nations, scientific activity is associated with specific and often complex challenges. These may include limited financial resources, a lack of large-scale research infrastructure, and the persistent threat of so-called ‘brain drain’. Consequently, for countries like ours, achieving success in science means engaging in an ongoing struggle amid global and unequal competition.
Our historical experience teaches us that Georgia has always faced extremely difficult obstacles and achieved historic victories precisely through prudent policies and tireless hard work. Today, we remain deeply convinced that if the nation’s intellectual direction and the state’s vision are aligned towards a common national goal, we will also respond to the most complex challenges of our time with dignity.
Today’s global crises are, by their very nature, connected to some extent with science and a deeper understanding of ongoing processes. Although small states do not possess substantial material resources, we aspire to play an active and positive role in promoting global peace and stability and overcoming crises. One of the most important ways to achieve this goal is to turn Georgia into an internationally recognised centre of intellectual attraction — a space where scientific activity can be revitalised and solutions to the modern world’s challenges can be proposed. This is directly linked to the sustainable development of our state and a peaceful future.
Eighty-five years is a long and proud history. The National Academy of Sciences of Georgia has travelled a difficult path and nurtured generations of scientists who have brought renown to our country. Today, it is our duty, as a state and as a society, to stand firmly behind Georgian scientists and help preserve the continuity between generations so that, together, we can build an even stronger, more secure, and more developed Georgia.
Once again, congratulations on this anniversary! May God bless Georgia!” President Mikheil Kavelashvili stated.
