The National Assembly of Bulgaria recognized the Holodomor of 1932-1933 as a genocide of the Ukrainian people.
134 deputies of the Bulgarian parliament voted for this decision, 25 voted against. Ukrainian leader Volodymyr Zelensky thanked the Bulgarian authorities for this decision.
Prior to this, the United States, Germany, Ireland, Romania, Moldova and the European Parliament recognized the Holodomor as a genocide of the Ukrainian people.
Holodomor is a massive famine in Ukraine in 1932-1933, the cause of which was the withdrawal of all food supplies from the peasants by the Soviet authorities. According to various sources, from 3 to 5 million people died then, although the exact number is unknown.
A large number of historians believe that this situation was deliberately created by the Soviet authorities on the territory of Ukraine.
