Representing Georgia, Luka Berulava and Anastasia Metelkina claimed gold medals in pair skating at the European Figure Skating Championships. The tournament is being held in the English city of Sheffield.

Based on the results of the short program and the free skate, the Georgian duo scored 215.76 points, confidently taking first place.

Second place went to Germany’s Minerva Fabienne Hase and Nikita Volodin. Third place was taken by Hungarian skaters Alexey Svyatchenko and Maria Pavlova.

This victory became Georgia’s first-ever gold medal in the history of the European Championships — previously, Georgian athletes had not reached the top step of the podium in this discipline.

“We are just very happy to have won the European Championship. We already had silver and bronze medals, and now we have finally won gold. We are incredibly happy,” said Luka Berulava.

The important victory was achieved ahead of the Winter Olympics, which will take place from February 6 to 22, 2026, in Milan and Cortina d’Ampezzo (Italy).

Georgian figure skater Nika Egadze is also a contender for European gold — he won the short program in Sheffield.
