Officers of the Mtskheta-Mtianeti Police Department of Georgia’s Ministry of Internal Affairs, as a result of operational measures and investigative actions, detained two citizens of Ukraine — I.P., born in 1964, and B.V., born in 2004. They are accused of the illegal acquisition, possession, and facilitation of the distribution of an especially large quantity of narcotic drugs by a group acting in prior agreement, the Georgian Interior Ministry reported.

According to the agency, the crime carries a penalty of up to 20 years in prison or life imprisonment.

“During the personal search of the detainees, as well as at the locations indicated by them, law enforcement officers seized an especially large quantity — up to 1 kilogram — of the narcotic drug methadone, intended for further distribution.

During the investigative actions, police also seized materials necessary for packaging the narcotics and an electronic scale.

The investigation is being conducted under Articles 260 and 260^1 of the Criminal Code of Georgia,” the statement said.
