The international train Yerevan–Batumi–Yerevan operated by South Caucasus Railway (SCR) will begin running again on June 14. The agreement was reached in Yerevan following a meeting with representatives of Georgian Railway, as reported by Echo of the Caucasus.

The train will operate every other day: on even-numbered dates from Yerevan, and on odd-numbered dates from Batumi. Ticket sales will open soon. During the period of this service—from June 14 to October 2—the Yerevan–Tbilisi–Yerevan train will be suspended.

According to SCR General Director Alexey Melnikov, demand for international train travel remains consistently high among Armenian citizens and visitors.

“The summer passenger season is quite active, and together with our Georgian colleagues, we are actively preparing for its launch. In addition to the international train, a seasonal electric train from Yerevan to Sevan and Shorzha will also be running. These are popular summer routes, and SCR will do everything to ensure they operate safely and comfortably,” Melnikov noted.

The Yerevan–Batumi–Yerevan train will include three types of carriages: open-plan (platzkart), compartment, and sleeping cars. The journey from Yerevan to Batumi takes approximately 16 hours. Tickets will be available at major railway stations in Armenia and Georgia, as well as online.

Among other topics discussed, the two sides also explored the launch of a tourist train using SCR rolling stock, which would operate for three days in Armenia and six days in Georgia. The initiative comes from the Czech company Gepard Express, which aims to attract mostly European tourists to the route.
