The initiators of the draft law on "foreign agents" failed to explain in plain language the real need for its adoption. This was stated to journalists by Viktor Kipiani, head of the Geocase analytical center, lawyer of the ex-Prime Minister of Georgia Bidzina Ivanishvili.

“The initiators of the bill were unable to explain in an accessible language the real context, the real priorities for the adoption of such a law. Especially in such a difficult time, when the country is on the verge of acquiring the status of a candidate for EU membership. And given the rather complex political landscape and polarization, the lack of information, the lack of explanatory work caused a reaction from the opposition forces, certain public organizations, part of society,” Kipiani told the Estonian news program “Echo of the Day”.

In a conversation with the Armenian TV channel 1in TV, Kipiani also criticized the leader of the ruling Georgian Dream party, Irakli Kobakhidze, who said that the war in Ukraine was “a consequence of the Maidan.”

“What about the Maidan and what did it bring to Ukraine? They lost Crimea and most of Luhansk and Donetsk, the continuation of all this is the war that is going on in Ukraine today,” Kobakhidze said a few days ago.

Kipiani said that Kobakhidze drew "extraordinary parallels" and did not like the politician's rhetoric.

"The chairman of the ruling party should be a little more careful in his statements," Ivanishvili's lawyer said.

He added that there are a number of politicians in Georgia who have been on the political radar for 15-20-25 years.

“Voters have a quantitative choice, but there is practically no qualitative choice,” Kipiani said.
