In the high-mountainous Georgian resort of Shovi, which is located in the Racha region, a search and rescue operation continues at the site where a devastating mudflow descended on August 3.

There are currently 11 deaths known. The search for another 25 people is underway. Rescue work is complicated by bad weather, with occasional heavy rain in the region.

Since August 5, units of the Georgian National Guard have joined in the rescue work. They erected several temporary bridges across the rivers, where the mudflow destroyed the bridges.

According to experts. mudflows of this magnitude have not been observed in western Georgia in recent decades. The mass of the mudflow is approximately 5 million tons.

In connection with the tragedy, August 7 was declared a day of mourning in Georgia.
