An armed man opened fire on people from the balcony of a residential building in the city of Sagarejo in eastern Georgia. According to the Georgian Interior Ministry, five people were killed, including one policeman.


 

According to eyewitnesses, the shooting began near the Geo Hospitals clinic and lasted for about an hour. Later, a special operation was carried out. The attacker committed suicide.

The perpetrator is former military Nodar Atuashvili. He was in military service from 2006 to 2021, served as part of the Georgian contingent in Afghanistan.

Motives for the crime are still unknown.

The case was initiated under two articles of the Criminal Code of Georgia - Article 110 (intentional murder of two or more persons under aggravating circumstances) and Article 236 (illegal acquisition or possession of firearms, ammunition, explosives or explosive devices).
