Manufacturers of construction materials and personal protective equipment in Georgia face a range of challenges, including difficulties with public procurement, accessing finance and skilled labor, relying on imported raw materials, and limited access to local laboratories for testing. On February 21, these challenges were discussed in a parliamentary dialogue between the public and private sectors.

One example of these challenges was highlighted by Vamekh Sarkeulidze, the founder of ELVEN TECHNOLOGIES, who has been developing an innovative firefighter's fireproof uniform. He explained that due to the lack of appropriate laboratory testing facilities in Georgia, his company had to conduct the necessary tests in Europe and America, incurring significant additional costs and time delays. This limits his company's participation in state tenders and motivates him to focus on exporting the product to more lucrative markets.

Sarkeulidze noted that the fire industry has specific requirements that are not tested in any laboratory in Georgia, and even American testing standards are not readily available. This poses a significant challenge for local companies seeking to meet international standards and compete in the global marketplace. By addressing these challenges, Georgia could better support local manufacturers and boost economic growth.
