Deputy Minister of Health Tamila Barkalaia announced at a meeting of the Foreign Relations Committee of the Parliament that more than 41,000 foreign citizens are working in Georgia, with 33,000 having residence permits.

Integration of the monitoring of these workers with Geostat is being considered, and response mechanisms are necessary due to the high number of foreign workers.

The law provides mechanisms for the protection of Georgian citizens working abroad, and the proposed amendments to the Law on Migration include implementing supervision of intermediary companies and strengthening cooperation with partner receiving states to minimize risks.

Licensing and certification of intermediary agencies are necessary to provide information to partner countries and establish trust. Barkalaia cites the example of a German employment agency involved in legal proceedings, which ultimately resulted in the company being ordered to pay the labor fee.
