Georgia’s Minister of Foreign Affairs, Maka Bochorishvili, spoke on the “Rustavi 2” broadcast about the need to renew strategic relations with the United States.
“We are, of course, working with the American side on a daily basis. They are very well aware of our position regarding the renewal of strategic relations. We have not hidden anything from our society; our positions have been publicly stated,” the minister said.
Maka Bochorishvili also drew attention to the approaches that existed during Joe Biden’s administration and described the decisions made toward Georgia as unfair.
“Indeed, the decision made by the Biden administration was unfair, given that Georgia was an exceptionally reliable partner for the United States in the region. Of course, against this background, such an attitude toward Georgia can only be regarded as unjust,” the minister emphasized.
According to her, under Donald Trump’s administration, changes in approaches and attitudes are already emerging, creating new opportunities to deepen bilateral relations. The minister stressed that intensive communication is ongoing between the Georgian and American sides, including with the U.S. State Department.
It was noted that recently contacts have intensified, including visits by U.S. delegations to Tbilisi, as well as a phone conversation between the U.S. Secretary of State and the Prime Minister of Georgia.
“We expect that certain steps will be taken to make our political dialogue more intensive and to discuss more issues with the American side, so that the relations that existed between Georgia and the United States can be developed with new strength, new energy, and new opportunities,” Maka Bochorishvili stated.
According to the minister, additional communication and working-level meetings are planned in the near future, which will allow the sides to discuss in more detail the current state of bilateral relations and future prospects.
